1.    Benign facial lesion such nevi or “beauty spot”:

An excision under local anesthesia helps to get rid of any cosmetically unpleasant injury.

Cancer of the skin is favored by sun exposure. It grows most often on exposed areas. Any suspicious lesion should be biopsied because early treatment of skin cancer increases the chances of healing and minimizes the effects.

3.    Skin cancer that requires surgical removal:

a. Basal cell: The most frequent.
b. Squamous cell carcinoma: the 2nd most common.
c. Melanoma: the most dangerous.

 

4.    Any facial or nasal deformity that bothers you:

a. Congenital (from birth)
b. Traumatic (following an accident)
c. Tumor (following the excision of a nasal tumor) or
d. Developmental (occurred during the growth without any obvious reason)

5.    Temporomandibular dysfunction:

a. Term that refers to problems related to the jaw joint and the muscles of mastication
b. Facial pain (especially on chewing), blocking the opening of the mouth and crunches are the most common symptoms.
c. It is often the cause of pain in the ear or headache.

7.    Excessively protruding ears or prominauris:

Correction of prominent ears (called in medical jargon prominauris cure or otoplasty), to reshape the pinna and to obtain a more natural appearance of ears.
Most of the time the correction is performed between 4 and 6 year-old before entering elementary school. Surgery may also be practiced at any age thereafter, but is paid for by the RAMQ when performed before the age of 18.
