The concept of emergency generally involves the threat of a vital function.

In ENT, the most often threatened vital function is the ventilation, which depends on the integrity of the airway. Inhalation of foreign body is the most common cause of acute respiratory obstruction in children; epiglottitis, classic etiology of acute dyspnea became rare; respiratory obstruction can also be at the pharyngeal level as observed in the retropharyngeal or peritonsillar cellulitis. Moreover certain emergencies like hemorrhagic bleeding after tonsillectomy or rarely an adenoidectomy can quickly compromise the circulatory balance.

These are advices that do not substitute for immediate medical attention.

Only emergency services do not require a consultation request from your doctor. Call us, we will decide whether to go to the hospital or to come to the Polyclinique Center-Ville.
