Cardiology
Cardiology is the medical specialty studying the heart, vessels and their diseases. The cardiologist also addresses risk factors of cardiovascular diseases.
The most common cardiovascular diseases are atherosclerotic coronary heart disease (hardening of the arteries of the heart: coronary) causing angina (chest pain) or myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure, rhythm disturbance, and pericarditis (inflammation of the lining of the heart). Risk factors treated by a cardiologist are high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Symptoms that require consultation in cardiology vary from chest pain, shortness of breath at rest or after exercising, palpitations, fainting, oedema of the lower limbs; sometimes it is necessary to be checked by a cardiologist before a surgery.
At the Polyclinique Centre-Ville we offer general and specialized cardiology consultation services by appointment. We are responding to consultations for problems affecting the cardiovascular system. We carry the investigation, diagnosis and medical treatment of hypertension, dyslipidemia, atherosclerotic coronary heart disease, cardiomyopathy, heart failure and atrial or ventricular arrhythmias.
Your referring physician will receive our consultation’s notes within a short period of time after your visit with the cardiologist.
