The mission of VACCI
VACCI is the Vertigo And Cerebral Concussion Institute, where we find a multidisciplinary team of doctors and health professionals, with a high expertise in the care of patients suffering from cerebral concussion or Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI).
VACCI is not just a center, it’s an Institute: the doctors who are part of it are professors at the University of Montreal, and some health professionals are teachers in their school of specialties. Scientific meetings and academic activities take place regularly to keep their knowledge up to date and discuss the best treatment for patients.
Given the increasing frequency of MTBIs in Quebec, it was necessary to create an institute to manage these patients with MTBI and suffering from a multitude of symptoms such as: headaches, fatigue, problems with concentration, memory and reading, emotional problem, anxiety, sadness, irritability and stress … sleep disturbance, hypersensitivity to noise and light, imbalance and dizziness …
It is well understood that these patients, with their multitude of symptoms are unable to work, restart their sports activities or continue their studies; they are simply out of work, deprived of their sport and absent from school or university.
Our mission is to help patients with MTBI to have a gradual reintegration into their normal lifestyle. There is nothing better than taking care of them with a multidisciplinary team.
Although the common point between these patients is the MTBI, the treatment is not the same for all patients! Every individual is different! Each individual requires individualized specific care.
Concussions cause variable and complex symptoms that make management difficult! Hence the importance of care being provided by a multidisciplinary team of physicians: Neurologist, ENT specialized in neurotology and health professionals with expertise in MTBI, such as Neuropsychologists, Physiotherapists, Optometrists, Osteopaths and Kinesiologist.
All these specialists are part of the VACCI and you will find them under the same roof at Polyclinique Centre-Ville, ORL & Spécialités Médicales.
