Otosclerosis
Otosclerosis corresponds to an abnormal bone formation around the base of the third ossicle, the stapes. This bone formation prevents the stapes from moving properly and effectively transmitting the sound wave to the inner ear. Otosclerosis mainly causes a conduction hearing loss. Treatment options include the use of a hearing aid or surgery entitled “Stapedectomy or Stapedotomy”. If the patient chooses surgery, otologist replaces the stapes by a piston.
