Nasal polyposis

It is a chronic inflammatory disease. It results in congestion of the nasal and sinus mucosa. It is often related to an allergy, where there will be an abnormal multiplication of cells resulting in the thickening of the mucus lining. Thus, causing breathing difficulty and decrease the sense of smell (hyposmia). An examination of the nasal cavity is required by performing a nasal endoscopy where ENT may highlight the diagnosis. A sinus scan will clarify the extent of the disease. Often the treatment is based on medication; if that fails, sinus surgery (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery: FESS) is indicated.
