Surgeries at the head and neck

2. Lesion excision of the face or in the oral cavity

The excision of a lesion of the face or in the oral cavity is depending of:

  1. Its appearance
  2. The result of a sample (biopsy already performed or after an insufficient ablation)
  3. For the reason that the lesion is located in a place where she is regularly disturbed (shaving, biting)
  4. For aesthetic reason.

Your doctor performs a local anesthesia and proceeds to the excision of the lesion. The latter is routinely sent for analysis to the pathology laboratory.

Three techniques allow the skin closure:

  • Simple Suture: This is the most simple, but not always possible.
  • Skin flap: a skin paddle is taken in the vicinity of the lesion and moved to cover the lesion.
  • Skin grafting: a skin graft is taken (behind the ear, above the clavicle, on the scalp, arm or thigh) and applied to the lesion.
