1) Vertigo:
It is an illusion of rotational movement, felt by the patient in one of the three planes of space. The sensation that the body revolves around the environment or the feeling that the environment turns around the body. Vertigo comes from the Latin word “vertere”; ie “turn”.
2) Imbalance:
It is equivalent to disequilibrium, dizziness and instability. A feeling of walking on clouds or cotton. A sensation of falling. It is impossible to maintain its body in a desired position. It’s a feeling sometimes described as a drunk or being on a boat.
3) Nystagmus:
It is an involuntary jerking movement of both eyeballs. It may be oscillatory or rotary, congenital or acquired. Nystagmus is a disturbance of eye muscles coordination. Nystagmus has two phases of movement: one slow and one fast. By convention it is the rapid phase that designates the direction of nystagmus.
4) False vertigo:
It is a poorly defined visual sensations (blurry, black veil), headache, fainting or loss of consciousness. Fainting is never associated with a peripheral origin of vertigo.
